Malaysia will face Asian Cup runners-up Australia in a friendly on October 7 in Sydney after being invited by the Australian FA.FA of Malaysia (FAM) vice president Datuk Subahan Kamal revealed that the Malayan Tigers were invited as part of the Socceroos preparation for their WorldCup qualifier against Oman on Oct 11.
Thailand and Saudi Arabia complete Group D of the qualifiers.
"We received an invitation to hold a national team friendly against Australia last week," Kamal said on Twitter. "FAM has agreed as it is difficult for us to be given a chance to play a World Cup team like Australia. "We've never played Australia before and they have quality players like Harry Kewell and Tim Cahill. That's a big challenge. "Australia have chosen us as the right team for their preparations for their World Cup qualification."
Malaysia failed to advance beyond the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after losing to arch-rivals Singapore over to legs in July.
