Betol-betol Hangat! Chong in, Choong out

Oleh Kaki Wayang on

Lee Chong Wei needed only 28 minutes to ensure his place in the BWF World Championships third round after an easy encounter. The 28-year old seemed to have exerted no effort whatsoever to seal a 21-10, 21-11 victory over Finland's Ville Lang at the Wembley Arena, booking his place in the top 16.

Chong Wei will face ninth seed Park Sung-hwan next, but a record of 11 wins in their last 12 meetings would back the Malaysian to take the win. Meanwhile, compatriot Wong Choong Hann saw his challenge in the world meet come to an end after a 21-1, 21-18 defeat to 10th seed Boonsak Ponsana.

The veteran shuttler was close to force a third set from the Thai player after leading 16-11 in the second, only for Boonsak to charge ahead with eight straight points before sealing his fate. In the mens' doubles, fourth seeds Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong were forced into a 66-minute battle before earning their third round ticket with a 21-6, 20-22, 21-15 win over China's Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan.

But there were disappointment in the mixed and womens' doubles, after Ong Jien Guo-Chong Sook Chin and Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty were sent packing.

Jien Guo-Sook Chin found 16th seeds Diju Valiyaveetil-Jwala Gutta too much to handle after a 21-11, 21-15 loss, while Eei Hui-Pei Tty fought for 88 minutes against Japan's Mizuki Fujii-Reika Kakiiwa before losing 21-16, 22-24, 22-20, ending Malaysia's challenge in the womens' doubles category.
